Communication regarding classes and individual messages will be via this web page - please bookmark it and ensure you refer to it every lesson. I will refer to requirements in Weekly components - this is Week 1, next week is Week 2. This semester has 20 weeks.

Advice for Teachers:

VCAL First https://vala.asn.au/vcal-first-2/
|
I would suggest that you create a template for submission of work - in that way, you will have a neat common theme running through your work for presentation that uses the same font, layout and formatting.
In ALL tasks, you must submit and then file all resource materials, drafts, collected information, photographs and final drafts. If all components are not submitted I will hand it back.

Wordle. (There are numerous on line wordle sites - take your pick!)
For the wordle on the right, I copy and pasted all the text for TASK 1 (above) into the program and played around with the settings to get this one. Be creative and choose colours that are complimentary and easy to read.
SAVE IT AS A PICTURE. (.JPG) Copy and paste your entire song/poem into Wordle. Select a suitable design and save as an A3 file to include with your song/poem.
Put your song/poem into Read&Write. Get the Chrome Read and Write plug-in. Don't know what a plug-in is? Look up here! All these little icons are my Chrome plug-ins. Read and Write is the little puzzle right above my 'shopping' bookmark. You will get a little Read&Write toolbar that will read out your page and better still you can talk and it will write. Experiment with it - it will save you a lot of time. (Highlight text and then hit the little person reading a book.) If working in a public place - please use headphones.

Task 2.
|
|
Collecting and researching for information.
This MUST be done as a group and you should each record what part you have undertaken in the task. Notes that you collect and make all need to be submitted for assessment as does evidence (notes and pictures) of the actual course.
Students will investigate the requirements for completing the Safe Food Handling course and the Responsible Serving of Alcohol course and plan a list of tasks with a timeline to be completed to run the courses at the school.
*Involve members of the community and find a provider, set a date, venue and sort out details of requirements. Collating information.
Find prospective providers for the courses and list their details. (Find and include as much information as you can about them.)
I have found one provider that will do these 2 and a barista course. It will probably be quite pricey so you will really have to get the community involved to get numbers up. |
Task 3.
|
|
Collecting and researching for information.
To write an explanatory report on how McDonalds and other fast food restaurants have contributed to the increasing obesity rate and other health related issues.
*You should include and quote all references researched for your report. Creating a Visual Display
Creating a health/nutrient board (that contains the health benefits of their product).
*Include visual material to enhance your discussion.

Task 6.

Edited with further information on 17th June.
Evaluating Instructions.
Students will demonstrate that they have gained meaning from reading or viewing a set of instructions to evaluate the effectiveness and clarity of the provided materials. I will provide some examples of poor instructions that you are to resolve and present to be more effective. Complete a draft before final submission. Include written and visual materials (photographs) in your work.
There is a great YouTube channel that shows how instructions can be taken literally and actually are quite funny. YouTube collection of Exact Instructions.
On Compass, I will try and upload one of the videos. It clearly shows how exact instructions can sometimes be even more confusing and that we take some instructions for granted. For example - what is the 'top' of the bread? We will watch one of these videos as a group and discuss.
There are numerous videos if you look at Exact Instructions on YouTube.

Persuasion.
Persuasive writing provides the opportunity to convince someone to adopt a particular viewpoint.
Students will provide a response on an issue and as a result from reading current newspaper articles on a current event and examine the plausibility of the writer. This is very similar to task 4 except you have to take into account how well the writer has persuaded you to their beliefs. As a result these 2 tasks will be assessed for the relevant outcomes together.
Students will then prepare a word list of persuasive language that is derived from the text.
*Your word list can be in any creative form such as Wordle.

Use the Internet to listen to an interview or a report on a topic of interest. Interview another person in your group about the topic and report back to the class. (TEDtalks) Make sure you include the source video and the video that you have made. Borrow a webcam if you like or do the interview via Loom, Meet, Screencastify or any other video program.
