Just wondering if you actually looked at this page and did any of this last Monday?
By the looks of your network folders, you did not!
Download the following Publisher file and follow the instructions on it. Do the work ON THAT PAGE and save back to your network folder in a folder called Media Arts.

Magazine
- Find 5 examples of different Magazine covers that have a person on the cover. Print (when we are next in art room on Monday) and paste into Visual Diary onto the second page.....allow for your front page to be put in please.
- Annotate briefly with why the magazine is attention grabbing and final statement about what elements they all have in common.
******If you think you have finished, then look ahead and see if you can do any work from future weeks!******
Week 2.
I will go through what Media Arts involves when I finally see you on the Monday!
Please note.....the 4 art laptops are set up and in most cases logged in for you to print your work from.
The desktop is also available for printing. Use as required.
There is a shortcut to student network files on the desktop of the laptops.
The OKI printer does A4 prints on alternate papers if required.
If you need A3, these computers also print A3 to the staffroom.
These laptops also access the tutorials and videos via the webpages should you need to reference them.
Do NOT misuse this privelege.

Demonstration of Photoshop
Create a front page for Media Arts in your Visual Diary in the form of an A3 magazine page on the computer (use Photoshop). It should contain the following:
It will be printed to the staff room only once it is satisfactory. |
Pages 1, 2 & 3 to be completed by Week 4.
Workbook check.......
- It is disappointing to note that your answers on the copyright task are very vague and in some cases incorrect. Please fix this, print and paste correct response in your book. 'It' is NOT the name of an artwork - you need to include details of what artwork you are talking about and even a small picture!
- Magazine covers........there is an additional part to the task very few of you have done. READ the instructions. That is why they are there. Do the extra parts and glue onto your page please.
- Complete your magazine cover front page, make sure you have included ALL requirements.
Week 3.
Have you................
- Created a network folder called Media Arts?
- Completed the copyright research?
- Collected and answered ALL the parts of the magazine task?
- Glued in headings on pages 1 to 7?
- Emily -please organise your network folder.
- Cody, where is your media arts folder?
Monday single - Photoshop demonstration.
Thursday - complete magazine front covers These videos (below) are in your Network folder.....watch them!
If you manage to do your cover in Photoshop. Try creating the same magazine cover using InDesign.
|
The ideal program to create magazines is InDesign.
|
Week 4.
I am absent Monday 5th August. You are expected to work and get the work completed.
Do not waste time. Do not complain.
Work is to be thoroughly completed and saved ready for printing.
If you cannot view Alike - skip past and read the references in the links and then find the movie posters.

Week 5.
Fix your Magazine front pages - Many of you have problems with alignment on the left and right, full stops/capital letters, too many fancy fonts/colours.
Is your image (including background) the best you can get?
Do you need to use the digital camera to get a better image?
Is the text/spelling correct?
Remember - It MUST resemble the original magazine!

Remember - It MUST resemble the original magazine!
- These magazine cover front pages are taking far too long - you are NOT checking spelling, layout, colours and so forth so that they match the original. These should have been done last week!
- Backgrounds are VERY ordinary. Work on it.
- Files need to be correctly named - Untitled 1 tells me NOTHING.
- Emily - organise your network folder please.
- Aidan - you have not even stuck your headings in your book yet - already you are falling behind.
Thursday 15th........
Movie Analysis
What is colour psychology?
Watch the following video: https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/how-to-use-color-in-film-50-examples-of-movie-color-palettes/ References that may help: Take the time and actually READ them...... http://www.color-meanings.com/color-symbolism-in-movies-what-do-colors-mean-in-movies/ https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/how-to-use-color-in-film-50-examples-of-movie-color-palettes/ Google search: Colour in movies, psychology of colour in movies, etc. Download and complete the worksheet. Print and paste into your visual diary with heading. |
|
|
Note: This file is A3 and designed for you to put your answers in and then save and print. Allow for the page to be trimmed. You may insert another page if you need to. Proof read your answers and make sure they make sense and are complete sentences!
|
Please ask the teacher(s) that have the class to play Alike to you again while you are working - perhaps a few times - to ensure you are looking at all the details/meanings. Also view the Making of Alike.
View the making of 'Alike' here: https://vimeo.com/149260113
It is important to realise that ALL media productions require planning and refinement no matter what the format they take. Films need to consider the audience, mood, story line, flow and many other considerations.
Colour is an important consideration. In movies, colour can determine many things.
Colour is an important consideration. In movies, colour can determine many things.
If you complete the 'Alike' analysis, find 6 examples of movie posters. Include references and write an brief analysis of the psychology of the colours used.
Alike Analysis.
- Proof read and print your Alike analysis. Give to me to check.
- Make any corrections. Print. Stick in your book on page with heading.
- Find 6 examples of Movie Posters. Include references and a comment on what makes the poster an effective means of getting attention in terms of thinking about the colours used.
Weeks 6&7.
*Thursday 22nd - Noorat Clay Target Shoot.....Cody
Yes, I am sick and I expect a lot of sympathy when I see you again on Monday - I have kept my germs at home!
Can you please make sure you use your class time and work on the Movie Poster topic. If you have been away, check your plastic pockets for handouts and headings and stick them on the correct pages.
You can do the research, and make sure you do it properly, (can print on Monday) and start the poster by doing the text (the photo can be added later) at the very least. IF you get all this done, then scroll down and investigate any other topics you can possibly investigate and start!
Aidan, Emily, Baylee and Alex....you are behind and should get up to date very soon please. Emily and Aidan - you will be missing another double session soon so please remember this and work to make up for this time.

Short demonstration on photo enhancement.
Guidelines: There is to be no violence or other inappropriate imagery in your work. The work produced must be able to be displayed for an audience within the school! If you have to ask if it is OK it probably isn't.
Taking Photos:
- This is the challenge - your poster is portrait yet it is tempting to take the photo in landscape orientation. You can avoid this by turning the camera to portrait orientation to save excess cropping in Photoshop.
- You will need to take turns in taking photos.......take more than 1.......take a few from different angles and places using the zoom if necessary so you have a choice when you get back to class. It will take time each time someone comes back with the camera for me to upload the photos.....be patient. You can work on your text layers while waiting! It would be great if any of you took photos outside of class from different viewpoints with your own cameras for some variation.
- DO NOT waste time and constantly preview the photos......we cannot stop and charge the batteries in the middle of class. The time for previewing is on the computer screen.
- Handle the cameras with care - do not drop, swing around or get wet!
Create a Movie Poster.....do not copy one already in existence or use images off the Internet but use layout ideas by all means. Take your own photos with digital camera or your own phone or camera (if you are able to download them to your computer)! Make sure the resolution is good - we want clear pictures when they are enlarged!
Think about how your image might be a little more creative than a straight photograph by using filters, cropping, backgrounds, colour enhancement etc. without going overboard!

- Make it A3. (Use Photoshop) File - New - Printing - A3.
- Movie title is "The Curse of Mt. Elephant"
- Use colour, fonts and spacing as indicated in the outline provided and to create effect.
- Make sure your spelling is spot on! Capital letters should also be used where appropriate and a variation of Upper and Lower case lettering where required.
- Print an A4 draft and have it checked, make any corrections BEFORE printing A3.
Check spelling, alignment, information, colour choices, font choices, use of UPPER and lower case lettering and all other aspects to ensure your movie poster is perfect at the first printing.

Week 8.
Create an animated gif
As a class, we will view the youtube video. If you need to view it again, the art laptops are available for you to do so.
As a class, we will all create a sample - it will be important that you listen and watch each step as they are introduced. File - New - Custom - 10cm x 12cm - 72 pixels/inch
|
|
- Keep it simple.
- Each part of your image should be on a different layer and each layer needs to be a new file. You can do this by doing the following:
You need to have at least 2 GIFs in the gallery below:
GIF Assessment Task:
Once you have created at least 2 trial GIFs, you will complete the following assessment task:
Using a minimum of 20 images, you will create a 20 second animated GIF. If you decide to create a more detailed cartoon like animated GIF, be aware that a standard high quality piece is done at a minimum of 24 frames per second (we worked at 30fps for our trials) and therefore doing the maths, you will need at east 100 images for a decent animation. Try and make it humorous and remember the guidelines about acceptable subject matter. (Scroll upwards and remind yourself.)

Complete your 3 GIFs and make sure your workbooks are up to date!
End of term 3.
Week 11.
Monday - 2 simple and at least 1 20/20/20 GIF to be uploaded to website.
Week 12.
Simple animation.
|
Week 12 and into weeks 13 & 14.
- Emily - please sort out your network folder - I cannot find things!
- All of you - check you are up to date - I still need 5 more Movie Posters!
- Glue Photoshop sheet into workbook and glue animated GIF sheet instructions underneath/beside it.
- Glue "My GIFs" heading into workbook. Paste a small screenshot of each of your 3 GIFs onto the page.
- Glue "Put Yourself in Art" heading into workbook. Paste a small version of your completed artwork on the page.
- Glue "Artworks Animation" heading into workbook. Paste a small screenshot of an interesting part of your animation into your workbook.
- Make a note of what you need to still complete - anything overdue needs to be done in your own time. It needs to be done for assessment!
Put yourself into art.
Demonstration of using google images.
*Use Photoshop
Guidelines: There is to be no violence or other inappropriate imagery in your work. The images produced must be able to be displayed for an audience within the school! Please use common sense at all times and when taking photos, you are NOT to disrupt other classes or linger around any areas unnecessarily. With limited cameras, we have to work cooperatively and do not hold others up so work quickly and return to class so others can have their turn!

Find the BEST quality artwork reproduction that you can for this task.
The important thing to remember is to break the artwork up into LAYERS.
Select - Copy - Paste. |
* If you have a camera at home that you can bring in and use, all the better, I only have 2 here. You can use the webcams but they do not produce a very high quality shot but good enough to practice with if you need to. |
Weeks 14 &15
(Week 15 - Monday Pupil Free Day, Tuesday Melbourne Cup Holiday)
Animated Art.
- In your network folder, I have placed a file called Screaming Gothic Sunflowers. Open it and have a look at the layers.
- Download and open this reference file:
artworks_animation_pages.pdf | |
File Size: | 421 kb |
File Type: |
You are NOT to use American Gothic, The Scream, The Great Wave off Kanganawa. Try and be a little more original and creative.
- Photoshop files end in *.psd and will save your layers.
- *.jpg files do NOT save your layers!
- As you complete each session of moving and saving as *.jpg files make sure you save your last image as a *.psd so you can take up from where you left off!
- Use high quality images! Remember to sort through SIZE and go to the original web site to collect the images. This is also why I got you to save the research images ........ to save you time looking for any more!
Not sure if this is possible - save your animation as a GIF as well as a movie?????
Animation.
There are numerous ways you can tackle this task - all involve layers/multiple images. Using combinations of famous artworks, create an animated short story. Minimum 150 frames. I suggest you make it interesting by combining a few artworks. Include an image or 2 of yourself to make it interesting. Record the websites you get them from as you will need to use them in your credits.
To select areas you want or do not want in your artworks and photos, use the QUICK SELECTION TOOL or the MAGIC WAND TOOL. These are the easiest (but not the only) way to make selections in Photoshop.
Make sure you have divided your artworks into multiple layers BEFORE you putting photo in. The easiest way to get your photo into your artwork is to drag it in. Remember: CTRL C = Copy CTRL V = Paste CTRL Z = Undo CTRL S = Save. |
|
Week 16.
Continue animation.
Week 17.
You need to continue with your animations. You must get them finished today so that we can have a viewing of everyone's work and so you can submit and finish everything (including all overdue work) next week.
Remind yourself of what to do by reading the instructions......you need 150 images and they need to be numbered so they load correctly in Photoshop then it is easy to create the animation itself by merely adjusting the timing so it is not too slow! Remember the credits.
Don't waste time - these animations need to be perfect!
Before you leave class today:
Create a new folder called FINISHED WORK in your Media Arts folder as I want to check it before class on Monday.
Put the following files into it -
Front page
Magazine research
Alike analysis
3 GIFs
Movie Research
Movie Poster
Self in Art
Art Animation
Aidan - have you got your workbook? It needs to be up to date. Leave it in the room please.
All work needs to be finished by everybody for assessment by first thing on Monday when I will check workbooks and files for report writing. We will spend next week viewing work.
Put all the chairs up.

Mona Me. Digital photo magic.
Week 21.
Activities, Presentation Night, Christmas Dinner, Pool Day.
Ignore what is below this line for now.
Animation
You may work in pairs for animation 1, but both of you must have copies of the images taken and do individual editing. Use a USB or log on to one of the classroom laptops to transfer/share images. That also means that you BOTH need to use web cams to photograph the story and get 100 frames EACH. In the end this makes for a longer video if edited carefully. Set up both a web cam and a laptop and both take a series of photos. It is VERY important that you set where your work saves to BEFORE you start any projects in these programs or you will lose it.
You need to do this EVERY time you start your computer! I am not responsible for looking for your files! |

A REPEAT OF WHAT I HAVE SAID BEFORE............
Some of you have ignored any comments on your work or have made no attempt to complete the work dating back to week 2 for some of you
Below is a list of work still to be completed that is now OVERDUE and there will be no more class time spent on these activities unless you complete all the class work for today - it is now HOMEWORK.

Move to the front of the room and get ready for a quick demonstration of Movie Maker.
- Import your images into Windows Moviemaker. Make sure they go in the right order.
- If you worked in pairs, try to incorporate your partner's work into your movie by putting parts of yours and theirs together to create the final edit..
- Edit and set your time so the movie goes quite quickly......0.2 or even less. Preview and make a decision about your timing.
- Add any special effects.......have a play with movie maker to get a feel for what you are doing. It MAY pay for you to save a few versions in case you cannot undo some of your actions.
- Add titles, words and credits....just like a real movie!
- Preview and save constantly so you are clear that your work is progressing as it should.
- ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY FINALISED YOUR MOVIE...............Save for computer and put a copy into your AAA.....etc. file.
- If you complete your video, scroll down and attempt the 'putting yourself into art' task.
READ the note at the top of your GIF/Video page please. Take note of what is written there.
